04 / Do it yourself

Doing it yourself vs hiring it out

A short roll-in dock on a firm, gentle shoreline is a fair weekend job. Past that, it gets hard fast.

01

Where it gets hard

Heavy lifts, muck, deep water and steep banks. ShoreMaster calls removal “at least a two-person job.”

02

Lift, don’t drag

That’s ShoreMaster’s warning. Dragging sections up a bank or over rock is how frames and roll-in axles get bent.

05 / Questions

Removal cost questions

Does spring installation cost the same?

This guide covers fall removal only. Installation takes more work, because every leg has to be leveled again, so ask BigWave for spring prices when you book.

Can my dock and lift be stored somewhere other than my shoreline?

Yes. BigWave offers dock and lift transport and indoor storage. Keeping it on your own shoreline is simplest, because Minnesota AIS rules apply once it leaves: hauling a dock or lift with zebra mussels attached needs a DNR permit, and Upper and Lower Prior Lake both have zebra mussels.
