Dock and Boat Lift Service on Spring Lake

We are based in Prior Lake, so Spring Lake is close to home. We look after docks and lifts here the whole season: in after the ice goes out, adjusted when the water changes, out again before freeze-up. Blake works every job right alongside his crew.

A year of dock and lift work

How a season on Spring Lake goes with us

Most of our Spring Lake work follows the calendar. Pick a time for seasonal service that repeats each year, and you get automatically reminded at the perfect time by BigWave.

  1. 01After ice-out

Back in, and level for this year's water

We set the dock and the lift back in and level each section for the water that is in the lake this spring, not last year's. Putting a dock in takes more care than taking it out. This is the step that decides whether it sits flat all summer or rocks every time you walk it.

  2. 02Midsummer

Three boat lifts under black and tan canopy covers in front of a stone lake home

When the lake moves, the lift has to follow

If the water comes up or drops away from where it sat at install, a lift can end up too high or too low for the boat. That is usually a height adjustment. Call us before the boat is stuck on the lift, not after.

Out of the water and onto your shore

The canopy cover comes off, then the lift and the dock come out of the water and wait out the winter on your shore. A 2,000 to 4,000 lb boat or pontoon lift is $200 to take out. A 4 ft sectional or roll-in dock is $4.50 a foot, with a $200 minimum for docks.

Service while it sits on shore

A lift out of the water is the easiest lift to work on. Getting it done now beats the spring rush, when parts and crew time are harder to come by.

The lake itself

Why our barge launches right on Spring Lake

Spring Lake drains north into Upper Prior Lake through a spillway under County Road 12. There is no boat route between the two lakes. So when a Spring Lake job needs the barge, it goes in on Spring Lake and works from there, with Blake at the controls and his crew on the lift.

The Prior Lake-Spring Lake Watershed District tracks the lake against an ordinary high water level of 912.8 feet. The City of Prior Lake sets the no-wake rules.

Zebra mussels

What they mean for the legs of your lift

Zebra mussels attach to whatever stays in the water all season. On a lift, that means the legs and the screw jacks. We pull the legs, clean and grease them, and put them back. Some lifts need it every year and some every other year, depending on the water at your spot. The easy moment is fall removal, while the lift is already out.

Towns around Spring Lake

City or township: which side of the line is your lot on?

Spring Lake's shoreline is split between two local governments, and dock rules can differ between them. Minnesota DNR rules apply on both sides. Call the right office and read the DNR dock page first. Our DNR rules explainer keeps it simple.

East end of the lake

City of Prior Lake

  • Spring Lake
  • Upper Prior Lake
  • Lower Prior Lake

Prior Lake is where our shop sits, so this is home water. We take care of docks and lifts on the east end of Spring Lake and on both Prior lakes, from a quick $25 look at a lift to a full new setup.

The rest of the shoreline

Spring Lake Township

  • Spring Lake
  • Fish Lake

Everything on Spring Lake outside city limits is in the township, and so is Fish Lake. A lift that tilts or a dock that wobbles is a leveling job, and we do those in the township all season.

Savage

Savage is just northeast of Prior Lake. Lake owners from Savage book the same fall removal and spring install, and the fall removal price tool works for them too. Farther out, we also work O'Dowd Lake in Shakopee and Cedar Lake near New Prague.

Questions

Spring Lake dock and lift questions

Ask Blake: 952-687-1349
Can you bring the barge onto Spring Lake?

Yes. Boats cannot get from Prior Lake into Spring Lake, so the barge goes in on Spring Lake itself when a job needs it. You can spot it behind the lift in the first photo on this page.

How does the yearly reminder work?

You pick a time for seasonal service that repeats each year. BigWave reminds you when it comes around, so getting the dock in or out is one less thing to keep track of.

My lift sat right last year. Why is it off now?

Most of the time the water level moved or a leg sank a little. Raising or lowering the lift usually sorts it out. A $25 look from Blake tells you for sure.

Does every lift need its legs cleaned every year?

No. Some lifts need it every year, others every other year. It depends on the water where your lift sits. Blake will tell you which once he sees your legs.

Who sets the dock rules on Spring Lake?

The City of Prior Lake on the east end, Spring Lake Township on the rest, and the Minnesota DNR everywhere. Ask the office that covers your lot, and see the DNR rules for docks, ahead of any new dock or lift.
